Two years ago, as I was sitting in my French class at school at about 12 pm (pretending to pay attention), my classmate leaned over and whispered " PSSST...you look like a fashion blogger...Fashion show. Tonight. You down?"

My first thought: "YES."

My second thought: "I HOPE THERE'S AN OPEN BAR."

My third: "WAIT. I DONT HAVE A BLOG."

By 2 pm, I rushed back to my apartment, conjured up a sneaky, devilish plan (it's not actually that sneaky or devilish, but for dramatic purposes, let's pretend it was 100% conniving), and quickly started working.

With my friend at my side translating this horrible, foreign HTML/Java script language for me (which I still do not understand today), and we made up a fake fashion blog. Yes, fake. I changed a couple dates, posted some old photos, threw in my old designs, splattered some blah's and yadda-yadda's through some posts, and by 5 p.m., my stealthy visade was up and running.

Afterwards, we quickly drove to LA, got our press passes, watched the show, and left in a very good mood ( and not as sneaky as earlier in the day).

Fast forward by two years and I was back. I was still trying to get as many drinks from the open bar as possible, socializing, enjoying the atmosphere, and soaking up all of the great energy at this years GenArts Fashion Show with my NO 15 photographer and dear friend, Angela Cole.

I often times read reviews and hear people go on rants about how LA shows are a joke, and how people there are just a hoard of snobby "wannabes." In some instances (usually, most instances), I would agree. However, this time around, I was actually very excited (secretly) to go again, and mainly due to personal reasons. The 2009 show unexpectedly turned into the start of a "timeframe" that I set up for myself myself which I often do a lot. It's always unsettling yet compelling to hit the end of your allotted time and to get strange feelings of déjà vu. I started asking myself "what have I accomplished so far," "how much haven't I accomplished"," "how much more do I need to accomplish?," and "what the f*** did I waste so much time on?!" Back in 2009, I had no idea of what I wanted to pursue after college. Sewing and designing were just a silly hobby, blog-writing was out of the question, and my main focus was being buried deep under my biochemical studies (believe it or not). Watching the models glide down the runway, the clothes flowing smoothly with their every movement, hearing the loud energetic music blast through the crowded venue, and hearing the crowd chanting and cheering when the lights dimmed down yet again was a great reminder to myself to stay focused, driven, and committed.

Coming from someone who wants to pursue a career in design, I found the show quite inspiring. It was nice to see how happy the designers were as they took their bows after presenting their blood and sweat (probably 6 months worth), in a 3 minute show.

I got asked one of those ice breaker questions the other night-you know, the simple 10-seconds-to-answer-no-brainer type:

I thought about it for a few seconds...(one)...(two)...easy.

I was stuck.

I thought about it for a few more seconds....(one)...(two)...stuck. I was actually stuck.

It was disgusting. I had this nasty feeling floating inside my stomach (50% was probably from my left over chicken), and I absolutely refused to continue on with life until I chose a solid answer (you know the feeling). Well, I ended up dropping the subject because I eventually got the "Hey, don't worry about it- no biggie" line (& a shot or two of tequila).

The question didn't cross my mind again until two days later when I was at a quaint, little bookstore in Coronado. Inside the American Politics section, oddly squished between "Witchcraft for Dummies" and "The Complete Karma Sutra" (someone needs to get fired) was this giant, brown book with a skull-to-man hologram as the cover. It was Alexander Mcqueen: Savage Beauty. I'm usually not a big fan of these fashion books, however, I was completely blown away by the content inside this particular one. I've always loved McQueen's dreamy, Edgar-Allen-Poe-Romantic-esque work, but to be honest, after reading this book, I grew so much more interested in the stuff that goes on inside his mind rather than what he threw on the runway. Sitting next to some of the photos in this book are some of his quotes collected from interviews, press releases, etc. To list a few of my favorites:

"I spent a long time learning how to construct clothes, which is important to do before you can deconstruct them."

"With me, metamorphosis is a bit like plastic surgery, but less drastic. I try to have the same effect with my clothes. But ultimately I do this to transform mentalities more than the body. I try and modify fashion like a scientist by offering what is relevant to today and what will continue to be so tomorrow."

"There is no way back for me now. I am going to take you on journeys you've never dreamed were possible."

"For me, what I do is an artistic expression which is channeled through me. Fashion is just the medium."

"It's the ugly things I notice more, because other people tend to ignore the ugly things."

"I don't really get inspired by specific women...It's more in the minds of the women in the past, like Catherine the Great, or Marie Antoinette. People who were doomed. Joan of Arc or Colette. Iconic women."

"Animals...fascinate me because you can find a force, an energy, a fear that also exists in sex."

What really got me hooked and made me buy this book was his inspiration and concept for his last collection before his passing:

"This collection predicted a future in which the ice cap would melt...the waters would rise and...life on earth would have to evolve in order to live beneath the sea once more or perish....Humanity would go back to the place from whence it came.

I absolutely love that his concept was a far-fetched idea, a vision, and almost in a way, a story rather than a one word answer like "hippies" or "cats." There was a designer I once had to write an article about who showcased a mediocre collection with quite possibly the worst press release that I have ever read:

" Sources of inspiration – Robotic transformers , origami, geishas, and sexy nuns make the designer play with the tension in veiled sexuality: the continual shifting between revelation and concealment. A woman with conflicting desires - man’s lover or God’s lover? Simple black. Covered neck. Decadent silk. From where does she come, where does she go? No one knows. Solely silent with furtive glances she returns to her convent. Secret safe. Kneeling in a prayer with the memory of lush silk on her skin"

Right....so I won't name names (Atis Artemjevs)...but that has to be the most ridiculous press release which is why I have so much respect for McQueen and the way he found inspiration, created concepts, and formed beautiful final products.

At this point, I am about 98% sure that you can figure out who my number 5 is. McQueen. Hands down. The man was a genius. It's as simple as that.

Now that I have my 5 down... what would I order?!

Not too long ago as I was watching Alien vs Predator, my little brother interrupted my movie and asked me to watch Toy Story 2 with him...again...for the fourth time. Although Toy Story was on, I couldn't stop thinking about the aliens and their protruding, mutated bones. This then led to a bizarre and ridiculous image of Bo Peep slowly fusing with an alien, which then, ultimately, lead to the idea for this dress.

Ciao Ragazzi!
I would like to introduce to you my dear friend Marta Giaccone. We met not too long ago at a charming, little gelateria near Navigli in Milano. She always made sure that I tried the best of the best gelato flavors, she always showed me where not to go at night time, and most importantly, she always taught me how to properly pronounce all of the crucial bad words that my Italian Professors refused to teach me. Besides being my portable "Urban Dictionary (Italia Edition)," and my personal tour guide, she is also a fantastic photographer. Her classic approach to photography spotlights the beauty in imperfections while her creative eye and natural talent continually capture breath-taking photos. Luckily for me, we had a chance to collaborate (four photos below), and I had the opportunity to pick her brain and hear her thoughts on her photography, experiences, and models.

KVN Digital or Film?
MARTA GIACCONE I definitely prefer shooting film. I think its quality allows more flexibility when it comes to shadows and hues, especially with black and white film. I love grain and the feel of it. It's almost never crystal clear, and it always has a beautiful flaw (like a soft roughness).

KVN How do you feel about Photoshop?
MG I guess I could say I am quite old fashioned. I try to keep my photos as natural as possible, starting from natural lighting and mostly natural hair and make-up (half of the time we even go without make-up). Though I am grateful for softwares such as PhotoShop that allow me to take the scanned film back to how I remember the scene I was shooting, in terms of lighting exposure and contrast, and then of course to remove all the dust spots that are so dear to film!

KVN Where do you draw your inspiration from? Who are you influences?
MG I get inspiration everywhere- from movies, usually old ones, or even just by looking at people in the streets. It's just endless creative trains of thoughts!!

KVN When did you first pick up a camera?
MG I started taking candid photos when I was in middle school I guess, first with disposable cameras, then with automatic film cameras. But it wasn't until about 4 years ago that I really started to develop an interest in portraits and fashion.

KVN What is your favorite thing about photography?
MG With my camera I can choose to capture whatever I like, depending on my mood, on what I have on my mind at the moment, on what captures my attention....leaving out all the unpleasant objects that surround me. I like how I can create something beautiful.

KVN What was your worst photoshoot experience?
MG well more than one...and there is usually a reocurring series of reasons: I organize a last-minute model test shoot, the model is too young (maybe even 16), too unnatural, clueless on how to pose, too rigid, smiles/laughs too much. Also if I'm not inspired and the model is bad, sometimes I can't come up with anything in particular. Then I feel like I've wasted a whole morning/afternoon, but it's all good for practice!

INSPIRATION:
uncastrated sheep, livestock, Dalí's Reclining Girl in Sheep.

Now, I know what you're thinking. That's a pretty unusual group of things to get inspired by. Don't worry. I think so, too. I, personally, thought that the first thing I would have designed after returning from Italy would be Renaissance or Ancient Roman inspired. Yeah, well..it's not.

It all started about a week ago when I was driving down the freeway while listening to Ben L'Oncle (If you have yet to hear one of his songs, I urge you to do so this instant). After about an hour on the road, I came across a bunch of sheep which led to about 5 minutes of applied Euclid's theory:

1. I wear wool.
2. Wool is sheep (practically).
3. I wear sheep.

Number 3 made me immediately visualize Dalí's painting which then led me to picturing myself wearing an actual "baaaa-ing" sheep (don't ask). I quickly rushed home, got my juices flowing (opened a bottle of wine), and started sewing. The worst part about making these "Ovis" high-rise shorts was making the patterns & lining (comme toujour), and the best part was...actually, none of it apart from my occasional cigarette breaks. Hand-sewing 300 individual flowers is just as tedious as it sounds. So, yeah...enjoy (or else). :)

LA RINASCITA

Being home again is such a bittersweet feeling, but after living in the fast-paced and never-sleeping Milan, getting lost in the whimsical campos of Venice, wandering aimlessly down the historic piazzas of Florence, running down the magical and beautifully lit streets of nighttime Rome, I can honestly say that I have never felt so inspired. Thank you for all of your patience during this long kvn hiatus of mine, but rest assured, I am back now and more ready than ever to move forward with my designs. I've got plenty of new ideas crammed inside my brain (& sketchbook), and I cannot cannot cannot wait to share them all with you (especially now that I have my sewing machine back)!

Just Cavalli F/W 2011 Collection
Milano

After catching the wrong tram and walking in the opposite direction (twice), I somehow (still don't know how) found my way to the Arco Della Place where the Just Cavalli show was held. The venue was great, the music was upbeat, and the crowd-pretty stylish. The clothes in the show, however, were a bit too flashy for my own personal taste. But then again, I am obviously not who they are aiming to target which, apparently, is the girly girls' girl. There were layers of floral prints mixed with...even more floral prints, trails of frills and ruffles that felt never ending, and loads of pinks, magentas, and reds. For some reason, I kept thinking that the first few models were on their way to a fluffy prepubescent cupcake-filled slumber party. Some of the stuff I did enjoy were a few middle pieces that were more color blocking-focused. I especially enjoyed the red monotone and fur-trimmed coat. Overall, I wouldn't say this particular show was one of my favorites, but it was a pleasure to watch. The crowd seemed quite receptive of the show in the end so....kudos to you Signore Cavalli ;).

Frankie Morello F/W 2011

To be honest, I wasn't expecting very much a few minutes prior to the start of the show. Not to say that I didn't enjoy the brand's previous collections, but after seeing the same trends being used over and over again in other shows from different brands, I completely lost all interest in fashion week. The Frankie Morello collection for F/W 2011, however, was a pleasant sight that caught me by surprise. The show started off with dancers dressed in black performing on the runway. The concept of that for me was a bit blurred, but it was very interesting to watch. The moment the first model walked out, I was shocked. For once, it was something other than floral prints, and rusty colors. The designers brought back the sartorial traditions of the Fifties (which I'm obsessed with), stuck there hands in it, and heavily messed around. Thrown into the mixture were florescent orange and bright yellow/green colored furs, heavy androgyny, gold metal decorated skirts, shoe shaped headbands made of human hair, and bright plastic/glossy bottoms. It was as if the "I Love Lucy" gang got lost inside the world of Dr. Seuss (to a lesser extent). I was very impressed with their creative take on such a cookie-cut and tailored time period. It was a great cultured experiment of de-contextualization and alternations between the concepts of the American ideal male and female. What impressed me most is how these "experiments" were still able to hold a great level elegance even amongst the uncommon textures and eccentric accessories.

The Cynthia Steffe Autumn/Winter 2011 Collection was unveiled during NYFW. The collection is innovative, contemporary and youthful.

The Fall and Winter times for me mean falling sick from that nasty "DGAF" flu. I turn into a lazy hermit, I skip class, and I sleep all day. I worry less about looking good and focus more on being warm and comfortable! What I find great about this particular collection is that it does not separate comfort from style. It cleverly offers both as a single entity.

Focusing more on the details, the individual pieces are basic. The collection is more heightened and more amplified by the choices in fabric and texture combinations. One of my favorites is the the yarn-fringed vest and the silky, red blouse mixture. I, personally, would not wear this collection (for obvious reasons)...but I am positive that plenty of others will. Thank you to those at Cynthia Steffe for inviting NO 15. It was surely a pleasure.

Charlotte Ronson F/W 2011

We at NO 15 were fortunate enough to have been invited to the Charlotte Ronson A/W 2011 show in New York. The collection made us feel like we were in the middle of a Nirvana show, but at the same time, a warm and cozy Nirvana show (if that even ever existed). The ripped leggings and faux side-shaved hair brought back that 90's alternative feel while the giant grand dad sweaters added some "wrapped-up-and-warm-in-bed" feel to the looks. Overall, the collection is a playful mélange of comfort and grunge, and we enjoyed pretty much every bit of it (especially the black coat pictured above). As much as I love seeing clothes being modeled in a fashion show, I don't think it's half as much fun as seeing what crazy looks are being worn off of the runways. NO 15 is currently in New York for fashion week, and three stunning young women have sparked our interest-musician Sky Ferreira, blogger Julia Frakes (bunnyBISOUS), and Louise Roe from The City. It's clear that these three have great, unique styles, but what I love and appreciate the most is their amounts of confidence. Without a single ounce of it, their clothes would remain to be nothing more than just simply...clothes.

My Inspiration:

Here is a shirt that I recently made. It's a lot simpler in design compared to the jelly fish dress, and it was definately a lot simpler to make. I was inspired by V from V for Vendetta. I loved that his outfit in the movie was monochrome, looked like it consisted of heaps and heaps of heavy fabric, and had a little air of mystery. I don't think I have the personality (for one, I wouldn't dare attempt to blow up the Houses of Parliament) nor do I have the muscle mass to carry and pull off his outfit in public, so I decided to just condense his aura and vibe into a shirt. Enjoy!

NO 15 had the pleasure of attending the Stephane Rolland Haute Couture Été 2011 show at the Théâtre National De Chaillot in Paris last week. Stephane's previous show in July left the room full with standing ovations, and this time around was no different. From the metallics and angular shapes to the grande, flowy trains and warm, rusty color palette- we enjoyed it all (almost as much as we enjoyed watching the tripping model-KIDDING;)). My Inspiration:

The Process:

Whenever I look at jelly fish, I'm always intrigued at how gracefully they travel through water. I can fall into a deep trance watching them move. It also amazes me how something so beautiful and angelic can be so deadly. I wanted to capture that jellyfish essence with these photos & this dress. If you haven't had a chance to listen to The Virgin Suicides score, I suggest you do so this instant.It's an amazing soundtrack and Air's modest, psychedelic, & somber songs set the mood for this shoot.

Creating this dress, I admit, was a pain. The worst part was making the bottom skirt (which also turns into a jacket). Styling & taking the photos were a lot more fun. Pictured is my cousin, B. She was the first person that I instantly thought of who would really bring this dress to life. I'm quite happy with the outcome, and I hope you enjoy!

Elle Fanning was recently featured in Lula Magazine's Fall/Winter issue. The first thing that popped into my head when I saw these editorials was, "Wow, she's only twelve years old?!" That thought later turned into a disgusted, "Ew, she's only twelves years old!" I've always appreciated the magazine's gentle, whimsical and ethereal feel & tone as well as the styling in its previous issues. However, I do not find sexualizing a little twelve-year-old girl, who, might I add, looks very vulnerable in these photos, with an Elie Saab low-cut, mini dress and Rodarte heels to be appealing at all. For those of you who haven't seen or read the magazine, you will find "girl of my dreams" resting right below the title. Let's just hope that this child is the girl of no grown man's dream.

A stomach virus, moving out, & finals sum up the reason for my long hiatus-sorry for that!

As I'm sure some of you already know, I'm not quite the patient person nor am I the type to sit down and plan things ahead of time. So what I'm about to tell you probably comes as no surprise. Before I left to Europe last June, all I did was lounge around, read, eat and go out. What I was suppose to do was spend time cleaning up my room and making sure that it was spotless before my flight. So naturally, I "cleaned" my room the best way I knew how-throwing all my stuff in my closet the night before, and PTFO.

Sadly, that came back to bite me in the ass because I had to spend quite a bit of time cleaning. Yes, I actually mean "cleaning" this time. Mom refers to my room as the junk yard down the hall. Although I do admit there is some validity to that, I have to disagree. There was no way my stuff could have all been simply labeled as just "JUNK" because I had a really hard time throwing most of it out! Thankfully, The-An came over and helped speed up the process as my rational half pointing out the stuff that I actually needed from the stuff I didn't. AND Unfortunately, She slowed the process back down by bringing over Gossip Girl season III-an embarassing guilty pleasure of mine. I know it's yours as well. Don't lie.

I swear there had to be some dirty substances in my allergy pills because I went into such deep thought while my long hours of cleaning. It made me see how big of an an obsessive sentimentalist and hoarder I am (soon to be "was" ;)). I always attach every single item that I own with a memory which makes it especially hard to throw anything out! I have a fear of forgetting so I hoard physical memories. I always end up telling myself things like, "NO! Don't throw that out! I wore those pants when [fill in the blank]." Times that line by about a thousand and I slowly had myself a "junk yard." I know I'm not the only one though. You have quite the junk yard as well, don't you? Don't lie. Dooonnn't lie.

Clean rooms to me are a clean slate. You have a hefty collection of the cool trinkets and items you love, and the nasty, heavy baggage you hate that you let waste away and pile up in your room. Once it's cleared out, you have all this space to start fresh. Some of you may not like the sound of that, but for me, it works.

So, looking forward with resolutions in mind, I hope that you and I have a life-changing, life-threatening (but not ending), life-something-other-than-boring year! So here’s to 2011 and to all of the new "junk" just waiting to fill up my new, clean room and your whatever-state-it-is room!

Friday classes blow. Seriously. I wasn't planning on going to my class last week because I usually have a hard time dragging my lazy self out of bed. When my alarm rang at 7:00 am, I threw it against the wall (as usual), walked to go pick it up, and took a look outside from my balcony. I couldn't believe what I saw, and it was such a pleasant suprise! It was snowing! I haven't seen snow since I was 10, and the only times I ever did see snow was in the mountains and never on a regular , normal day.

I quickly got dressed, grabbed my camera, and ran out the door to catch the next tram. The little ten-year-old Kevin came out of me when I ran down the stairs all giddy with excitement to see the snow up-close. When I finally started walking in the snow, my mean, grouchy 20 year-old self came back and I was over it. My socks were soaked, my oxfords were ruined, and my legs were extremely cold. All I wanted, then, was a pair of dry socks. I quickly hopped off the tram a few stops earlier from my normal route to Uni and went to Jessica Treeby's house. The pictures above are end products of putting together two bored students, a cozy and warm apartment, a camera, two spare hours, and one degree weather.

I don't mean to sound like such a Grinch about snow, but I really do hate soggy socks. I do, however, really love to layer so that's a nice plus for the snow. I'm sure once the snow really kicks in and creates fresh, white powder that covers and frosts the giant Christmas tree at the Duomo, I will be in full admiration. Full-admiration from the window inside the cafe facing the Duomo that is.... ;)

For those of you who are wondering what I'm actually doing in Europe, let me clear things up a bit. I didn't take a year off of school, nor did I drop out just to travel and backpack (though sometimes I wish that were the case). I'm actually here studying to finish up my Bachelor's degree! I've been gone since June so I've getting a bit homesick lately.

And of course, other than food, I miss my family and friends. Very much, actually- which is why I was extremely happy that one of my good friend from high school, Jane Phan, came to visit me for the weekend! The weekend was so eventful and so much fun! I tend to lose my excitement for this city because of my monotonous, daily routine -school, lunch, coffee break, home, dinner, study, sleep- so it was definately a nice change hosting Jane. From my time here, I've gotten to learn that Milan never gets boring especially when you're sharing good times and good vibes with some of the greatest people.

I wasn't too sad when she left because I had the privilege of following her back to Paris for a couple of days! I will post more on my trip later, but you can get a little taste of how my trip started HERE.

I will end this post with a 'Happy Thanksgiving!' It's not too festive here in Milano, for obvious reasons. It makes me a bit sad knowing that I wont be joining my family at the dinner table this year, but not having a turkey wont make me any less thankful for all of the amazing people in my life.

I MISS THE WARMTH, HEAT, AND CALIFORNIA. I'd probably be dark, tan, and burnt to a crisp back in Orange County right now. Here, however, I am freezing cold. I can't wear my usual American Apparel short shorts and baggy tank without being on the verge of catching hypothermia. I'm not so use to needing to wear coats, layers, jackets, and warm clothes everywhere I go nor am I use to shivering so much! I'm trying to adapt to a real winter with one baby step at a time. First, a new adjustment to an old favorite.

Here, I took this janky piece of fur which I found at a flea market and sewed it onto my absolute, favorite jacket. It all started yesterday night when my good friend, Jane, flew into Milan to pay me a visit. We were heading out to celebrate so I threw on my denim jacket, ran outside, froze, and ran back inside. I quickly whipped out my needle and thread-the most handy thing ever-and attached the fur.

Warm? YES. I think I may like my my jacket even more so now. My deepest apologies PETA, but homeboy needs to make it through the winter.

I have to say, nothing feels more liberating than backpacking alone for two weeks and jumping from couch to couch of total strangers. My first stop-Berlin.

I packed very light-I'm talking camera, phone, 2 outfits, a pair of PJ's, and a bunch of undies and socks. I don't know what came over me, but I completely forgot about Halloween! It was a relief to know that the group I was staying with were in need of costumes as well. So we jumped on bikes, rode to the nearest mall, and searched for last minute halloween gear! And of course, all that was left were over-priced witch hats and glittered cat ears. It was horrible! We rushed back, made make-shift or (for all you fashionistas out there) "DIY" costumes ;), and ran out the door to catch the next U-Bahn.

I got a lot of "JAPANESE KARATE MAN's," and "STEVE AOKI's." Nice guesses, everyone. Stache Talkin' 70's Fitness Guru was what I was going for, but I'll take "Steve Aoki" (love his music)! My 13 pseudo-chest hairs, mustache, and side burns were smeared into a big blob all over my clothes by the end of the night, but that's okay. This year's Halloween was worth the stains. OH, and it was definately very refreshing to finally celebrate a Halloween without a parade of slutty teenage pirates and Tinkerbell's. (No offense to those who were slutty pirates or Tinkerbell's this year). Now, if only I could really grow a man-stache like that...

Fashion Week in Paris about a month ago had the city flooded with people dressed in the most eclectic and beautiful clothing. Milan was absolutely no different. People were out in their 'bests'-Men in fitted suits, oxford shoes, and tie-women in the most lovely dresses paired with the most amazing heels. After living in Milan for about a month, I'm starting to feel as if it's an everyday thing for people here to be in their 'best'. I've yet to see someone wear flip flops or basketball shorts on down the streets!

My favorite pieces of the roccobarocco Spring/Summer 2011 collection are the pink blouse and the grey textured cardigan. I was never really a big fan of crazy, elaborate patterns especially crazy, elaborate TWO-PATTERNED patterns, but I really did enjoy the different textures and shapes that were created and present on some of the pieces. The way some of the hanging fabrics on the blouses flowed as the models walked was so lovely and it added a very nice feminine vibe. I, personally, feel that the collection is a bit all over the place... but how cool is that cross/rat's tail hanging down one of the model's hair?!

C'N'C CoSTUME NATIONAL

The C'N'C CoSTUME NATIONAL Show was filled with so much life-in the stage performance and in the collection. Unfortunately it was also filled with a lot of rain, but even the not-so-pleasant weather couldn't stop the seats from being completely filled.

It was really nice to see an intro performance leading into the show itself. It completely evoked this emotional and mystical aura that set the tone for rest of the show. I loved how the collection started off with a lot of neutrals that slowly got infected with brighter colors. The transition was beautifully done. The color blocking was great. And the confetti was a simple yet great surprise-it completely lifted the spirits of audience.

Paola Frani's Spring/Summer 2011 Collection embodies the spirit of that care-free, bright, and vibrant, young woman. This collection was very girly and upbeat. The clothes were filled with pinks and floral patterns paired with very flowy and light fabrics. My favorite of the bunch was the see-through teal and pink hearted tank top styled with the floral high-waisted skirt. I, for obvious reasons, would not wear that, but I'm sure there are many young girls that would. Although I felt that a lot of the looks followed the very typical and expected 'girly' look for spring (high-waisted skirts with a baggy top belted at the waist) , the collection all-together was still very pleasant to see on the runway.

I took a walk around the Duomo the other day expecting the usual-tourists taking over the plaza, But Oh was I wrong! I was first tapped on the back by some group of strangers. I couldn't see who it was at first so naturally, I grabbed hold of my bag in fear of being pick pocketed! Fortunately, it was just a group of tall, skinny, pretty people wearing matching black and white outfits handing out free YSL gear and tote bags! I don't know how I could've forgotten, but it was for YSL's FA/WI 2010-2011 Manifesto! I was hit with another pleasant surprise when I saw the streets of Corso Venezia and Via Monte Napoleone being infested with tall, gorgeous, skinny (very skinny), people equipped with the most amazing clothes and portfolio/look book in hand. My guess was that they were going to Go-Sees & Fittings. The huge construction of a giant runway and stage in the Galleria definately confirmed that assumption. The drills and clanking metal sounded like sweet, delicious music because it was a damn good assurance that Milano Fashion Week was fast approaching. In fact, Milano Fashion Weeks starts TOMORROW MORNING!
Excited? Yes.

I know...I'm probably super late on this and I told myself that I would never do this, but I finally fell into the DIY STUDDED trend. There was a giant 2 dollar bag full of studs that taunted me, fell into my hands, rolled onto the register, and rolled itself into my car. Totally not my fault.

My original plan was to stud just the inside lining of the jacket, but once I saw how much work it was just to put on one stud, I changed the plan to just add studs on the inside collar. Then I came to realize that studding the whole inside collar was a lot of work as well. SO, I decided to just stop when my fingers started to go numb. Oddly, I was glad my fingers started to go numb at the point wherever I was because I really liked how the jacket ended up with this asymmetrical/unbalanced look. It's got this "not-so-perfectly-put-together" vibe that I love. Not at all fun to make, but very fun to wear. It was the best thing that could have ever happened to my jank-nasty-out-of-date GAP Track jacket from 10th grade. That was the first and definately the last time I 'DIY' anything with studs. Not worth the pain. I saw someone last week with pants fully covered with studs...PANTS!!-that right there, is endurance. Kudos to you, brethren.

SO, following the kvn blog precedent...every new location comes some touristy shots. Here are some shots around the Duomo. It's a lovely place. I have yet to go inside and on top, but I will soon. The details are totally impeccable. It's amazing thinking about how much time and effort went into putting all that detail into that slab of brick and marble. So far, I have to say that I'm not too fond of Milano. Maybe it's because I was in Paris right before where everything seems so magical and whimsical, or maybe I'm just not diggin this brown-esque feel to it all. But nonetheless, Milan is a very lovely place.

So before I move on, I must tell you the rest of this post has nothing to do with Milano, but more about random grammar. I came across a really interesting topic while talking with some friends on a tram ride. It's a reoccuring topic that always comes up. It either could be a very interesting topic for you all, or just one of those stupid immature-group-of-boys type of topics. SO, what I want to bring up is...HYPHENS.

Do you ever notice how important hyphens are? One minor displacement changes the whole tone of a conversation. I've been using the word "Janky" out here a lot to describe little dirty (yet fun-as-hell) streets and bars. FOR EXAMPLE, our usual spot here in Milan is this janky-ass bar called Al Banco down this janky-ass street called Via Vetere. If I moved the hyphens, I would be talking about something completely different-a "janky ass-bar down some janky ass-street." Again, maybe (most likely) it's an immature-group-of-boys sort of humor, but it sure is interesting and funny if you really think about it!

Milano so far has been such a kind place. I met the sweetest people/strangers that instantly connected with, had the best and cheapest gelato ever...EVER, and seen the most amazing architecture. My new favorite place here is this American Book Store called "American Book Store." Clever, right? ;) Just bought "The Jungle Books." I'm reading it now and it's great. It's one of those butchered-by-Disney stories you just HAVE to read. I might post an excerpt soon, but if you have chance, definately take a look at it. It's a super quick read.

Hello again! (or I guess, Gutten tag!)
After a long week consisting of airport confusion, getting lost, missing trains, aimless wandering, and hours of unpacking, I finally got myself settled here in Krefeld, Germany. It's a huge change of atmosphere compared to Paris, but a good change! It's like a breath of fresh air (literally) to finally be out of the crowded city, the smelly metros, and touristy streets. Oh, and it's definately very nice to finally not get yelled at everyday by the same old hobo at the La Motte-Piquette metro stop.

For someone with a large array of allergic reactions to grass and all things pertaining to nature, I must say I really enjoy all of the green out here-I'm talking WOODSY-green! The beer gardens/parks here are amazing! It's nothing like the parks back in Orange County. I'd have to go camping to see something like this back at home. I'm not so used to it yet, but it's surely very relaxing.

I haven't run into as many bakeries here like I used to in Paris. I kind of miss seeing fifty-something boulangeries and pâtisseries on every street and corner. Ah yes, the pain au chocolats, the chocoranges, the mille-feuilles, the madeleines, the eclairs, and of course, my all-time favorite,the macarons. I do see a lot of Weißbier and Schwarzbier here though. Not really my thing.

Deutschland, so far, has been quite an experience. I don't understand much German, but I'm still working it. I've got down 'hello,' 'goodbye,' & 'GET AWAY FROM ME!'-the simple necessities of a foreigner. MMMM, the only thing I need now...is a bike!! Tschüs!

I love that things just "happen" in Paris. The most random things, the most random meet-ups, everything. I don't have any other explanation for the series of events that have happened to me in Paris at night except for THINGS JUST HAPPEN AND I FEEL AS IF IT ONLY HAPPENS HERE! I'm going nuts and pulling my hair as I speak because I cannot type out exactly what I mean because I can't put it into words! I hope you all catch my drift, though!

For example:
The other day after a couple buddies and I walked out of a bar, we got lost. I asked a random stranger that was speaking in french,

"Parlez-vous anglais?"

stranger: "Oui, Where are you all from?"

me: " OC "

stranger: "Cool! I'm from San Diego!"

me: " No way! I go to school in San Diego! "

stranger: "I used to go to UCSD"

me: " THAT'S MY SCHOOL!"

I wish I knew how or why things just happen here but I don't! It's crazy but always amazing! The other night at the Eiffel, my friend and I walked into the grass with our champagne and if you've been to the Eiffel at night you KNOW how hard it is to find or meet up with someone because it's too crowded and dark. But as we were walking, 3 of our other buddies walk towards us from the opposite direction and to my left another one of our buddies walks our direction. We didn't even plan it at all. We all sat down together and literally 2 minutes later, 2 other of our buddies walks in our direction and we screamed their names! What was suppose to be just 2 people chillin at the tower turned into a random 10 people picnic. I wish you could all see my "sigh-ing" in awe and joy right now. hahaha SIGHHHH.

ALSO, The other night, my friend and I were a bit disoriented coming back from a bar and we were about to hop onto the metro when two guys stop us and yell at my friend

"EXCUSE ME JEUNE FILLE, YOUR BAG! YOUR BAG"
M: that's not my bag
man: yes it is! you're drunk right now please dont forget it.
M: THATS NOT MINE
man: It is! it was by your seat at the platform!
M: LEAVE ME ALONE! ILL TAKE THE BAG

One of the most convenient things here in Paris, I have to say, is the metro system. It'll take you anywhere you need to go,it's very fast and very efficient. The only problem for me though, is that I seemingly have taken the metro so much here that I feel like I've seen more of the underground-Paris than actual-Paris itself. It's a shame, now that I think about it, that I didn't walk or stroll along the streets more to really enjoy the sites, atmosphere, and surroundings.

Luckily, last sunday, my buddy,Atalya, and I forgot our metro and bus passes and had no other choice but to walk home. It was a two and a half hour walk, but it was definately worth it. We ran into this quaint, little vintage shop named "Free 'P' Star." It had great stuff inside and it was suprisingly all very very VERY cheap! It definately puts our vintage shops in California to shame!

After we bought our clothes, we ran into the Notre Dame, which is always a pleasure to look at. I still have yet to go inside and go up it, but I plan on it soon! When the sun started setting we hit up the Seine River to get a better look at the sun.

It's a shame that we sometimes trade in our "adventurous-thrill-for-life-and-the-unknown" side of us for things of convenience and ease. With that I share with you all one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite surrealist writers, Louis Aragon.

I had the pleasure of having the lovely Liz Kim of UNA join me at the Eiffel Tower the other day. The Eiffel Tower by day, I have to say, is kind of REALLY ugly. It's brown, dirty, and almost rusty-looking. BUT (a big but), at night, it completely changes. It lights up, it shines, it glitters. What amazes me more than the light show every hour, is the fact that this tower, the symbol of Paris and France, the face of every French postcard, the backdrop of numerous love movies, is really just nothing. There's nothing inside the tower to see (except the restaurant which is technically not even inside the Tower), it's not a museum, it doesn't play any music, it participates in no rite or cult, it's just nothing. Yet, it has the power to make people dance, yell, sing, unite, cry, take photos, kiss, nap, read, move, love, dream, picnic, climb, roll, hug, cuddle, enjoy, hope, indulge, everything. It's crazy how there is so much life revolving around it and how people unceasingly give it meaning and signficance--considering it really is a piece of metal/steal/whatever. I think what intriques me the most is the fact that the Tower creates structuralism without knowing it. It may sound like I'm hating on the symbol of Paris, but in fact, I actually think it's a wonderful chunk of iron/steel/whatever-metal-materiel-it's-constructed-of, and I'm very glad, and of course, very thankful that my flat is literally right next to it. Sitting in front of the Eiffel Tower never gets old especially with cigs, my moleskin, and of course, great company (WINE TOO). Although you obviously cannot see, I raise my glass to my last couple weeks left here in Paris, and I raise my glass to all of you who've experienced Paris with me in person and through my blog. One of my favorite favorite favorite movies of all time is Sofia Coppola' Marie Antoinette (alongside with Goodbye Lenin). I was completely in awe of all of the costumes, I very much enjoyed the music selection, and I was absolutely in love with place they shot it, which we all know as Versailles. When I finally got to visit Versailles the other day...I was kind of dissappointed. Maybe it was the 1000's of japanese tourists pushing and shoving, 400 little kids yelling and screaming that, and the 10000's of American tourists any possible personal space giving that killed it for me, but that place was not like how I pictured. I'll definately visit it again when there's a lot less people, but nonetheless, the it was still visually very stunning, the paintings were gorgeously done, and it was very fit for a super lavish Queen (and king).

So here are some FAQs:
1. About 20,000 people lived in the court, and they all had planned dances, plays, etc that they had to learn and perform.
2. Those planned activities were mandatory and were very time consuming
3. Those "fun" activities were actually meant to keep the really rich and somewhat powerful people of the court really busy so they don't plan anything against the King!

INTERESTING!

What would really be cool is to see how people lived in such a place back then. There's so much to do there! The garden in the back is HUGE and there is just so many rooms! I hear on New Years, they reenact the times of Marie Antoinette with a giant feast and party. It costs about 1000 Euros for you to attend- hahah maybe one day I'll join in, maybe not. I'll just stick to the movie for now. Take care!

I've been MIA lately! Sorry, my internet here was down, BUT it's back up!

I don't know what it is, but the cemeteries and the catacomb here really relaxes me. I know at home I'd be scared and freaked out in one. I went to the cemetery and catacombs the other day and it was so peaceful. I just wanted to walk around all day there and never leave. In the catacombs, there are literally skulls stacked on top of each other that you can just pick up and hold in your barehands. It was so morbid, yet so pretty at the same time. What's even weirder for me to think about was that in the cemeteries, you're body is buried near your family lot, but in the catacombs, the bodies that were placed in there centuries ago were just taken apart. Your leg could be 400 feet away from your other one as well as your skull. There's something about the catacombs that really interests me. I can't quite lay my finger on it yet, but I will be back to find out.

And if you ever go, don't try to steal any bones! They check your bag at the exit (four people in front of me exiting got caught.)

STEPHANE ROLLAND

The Stephane Rolland show was what I would've expected from a fashion week- a giant runway, bright lights, crowds of people, and really skinny models pounding their heels into the ground(which may or may not be a good thing depending on how you personally feel about fashion shows). I, personally, am very glad that I got to see Stephane's show because it was a nice contrast from Adeline's show. Both had very different executions, but both also did a very beautiful job.

Stephane's collection played a lot with textures and shapes- which, if you've read my previous posts, are two things that I love! My personal favorites were the first, second, and seventh dresses pictured above. Although I wasn't completely in love his collection by the end of the show, I still felt that he did a remarkable job. I had a chance to speak with Stephane afterwards and what I really enjoyed hearing most, or thought was the most interesting, was his description of his collection,"a light caress on the hand." I think that "caress" is a perfect description. His dresses are a big and grande, but not over-the-top like a giant slap in the face. He created a beautiful melange and found a great balance of "minimal" and "avant-garde." The last thing he spoke to me about was his goal: "to help women feel beautiful." I don't think it'd be very hard for any woman to feel such a way in one of his dresses. Kudos, Stephane.

Adeline André

Adeline André's couture collection was...different. I was, at first, very taken back by how simple the designs seemed to be, afterall, it was couture week! I was expecting big, loud, crazy, however, as the show progressed, I realized it was in fact big, crazy, loud, in it's own different and endearing kind of way. Her collection could be easily overlooked because of its simplistic style, but at a closer glance, it's quite beautiful. I always have an appreciation for the more simplistic clothing, because I understand how difficult it is to sew "simple" styled clothing. Without the precise measurements, care, and precisions, you just get one crooked piece of fabric.

During the show, Adeline and her team took layers off of one model and moved them onto another. The first model is continually undressed until she was down to her last layer.

This show was very different from what I expected. I envisioned there to be a huge runway filled with models strutting all the way down as the lights shine on their bodies. Although it wasn't the typical show, I still very much enjoyed the intimate setting with lesser people and a smaller venue (maybe even more). I liked that the show did not follow what everyone is used to. That's what made it so much more enjoyable.

I, personally, always judge a designer by their final bow at the end of their show. When Adeline took her bow, she was so modest and so sincere. She didn't link arms with 2 of her models and strut down herself. She simply waved with a giant and proud smile and walked away. When I caught up with her after the show to chat, it came to no suprise that she indeed was very sweet-Possibly one of the sweetest women I have ever met.

my inspiration:

After seeing the stained glass windows in l'Eglise Saint Pierre, I was really inspired to create a sweater that can capture those exact glass windows. It was quite the adventure trying to find this place but it was well worth it!

A lot of times glass and sharper patterns get associated with really angular and "fierce" styles of clothing, but for this sweater I wanted to make something really flowy and more relaxed so that the shapes on the fabric could really take the front line. Also, I think this sweater is perfect for the summer because it is freaking hot outside (or atleast here in Paris it is).

My favorite part of making this sweater was the sleeves! The worst part about making this was definately cutting the fabric and making a quick pattern for it( and also sewing the fabric into a sweater itself). Biggest headache ever-especially because of all the different shapes/patterns on the fabric.

If you've read my "minor details" post awhile back, you'll know how much I appreciate the "minor details" people put into their outfits. I love it when people roll up their pant legs or push up their sleevs. I love the texture that's created from it as well as the new shapes and forms. Little details allow your clothes to be really YOUR own clothing. Although "Cheetah Girl"'s striped shirt is barely showing out of her baggy white top, it makes her outfit so much more. There are probably 10000 of the same shirt you have out there but the way you wear it really makes a big difference. Again, minor details-much appreciated.

I absolutely love the necklace above! I love the mixture of patterns and I love the confidence these people gave off with their own style. I took these photos in Montemart, and I love the area. It's so relaxed and much more laid back than the city. Even by the way they dress you can tell how chill the place was.

So now that I've got my touristy week over with, I can start writing/blogging about fashion-related things again. I've only been here a week but I seriously feel like I've been here for months. I learned quite a bit this past week and met a lot of amazing people. The metro is SO convenient and it's never too early for wine!

One thing I love here is everyone's personal style. Dressing up is like an unconscious effort here. People in Paris just look good. I have yet to see a Parisian walking around in sweatpants and a t-shirt. Everyone is so confident and comfortable with thier own personal style, and that's what I love! Fashion here doesn't seem so exclusive and elitist. Everyone dresses up-the old, young, babies,everyone-whether they have designer labels or not. Here, pictured, are the very stylish Yelena, & Georg (of Maison Requiem). I love that their outfits consists of plain, simple layers that aren't so loud and in-your-face. Very subtle and very lovely.

SO currently, I've been working on a few pieces of clothing and a pair of sandals so I will definately update you all on that soon. But for now, I hope you enjoyed these photos. I will be posting stuff like this regularly now so do stop by again! Once more, I am never coming home! ever! :)

I needed sandals for my trip and I was too lazy (and broke) to go out buy them, soooo I made...KVN SANDALS! I cut up my old rainbows, added loops, and roped string through the loops. The last picture is completely irrevelant so you can ignore that, but these are really easy to make and are really comfortable. They're also really sturdy too!

The yellow blouse was a super impromptu on-the-spot design I made for NO 15's newest editorial shoot. I absolutely love the color of the lace fabric. My style for awhile has been really messy and grudgy yet still put-together. And hopefully it translates and is visible through this blouse! Personally, I love imperfect looking clothing where there's rips, tears, and wrinkles. I feel like there's so much more character in it and as well beauty. I'm currently in a textured-loving phase right now. I cannot cannot cannot get enough of making things with different layers, levels, and shapes.

I'll post up more production photos later from the shoot! It was completely amazing. The super talented Alice Fan photographed this editorial, and I cannot cannot cannot wait for you all to see the final product in NO15's upcoming Fall 2010 issue :)

Here's my latest piece worn by the lovely Kalisa Steffens.I'm pretty happy with how it turned out! I wanted to give the dress a free-flowing vibe. It's not as structured as my other dresses so it was pretty fun making! I guess you can call it "method sewing," but I only used a sewing needle and thread rather than a sewing machine in order to capture a more natural, free, flowy, elegant and effortless vibe. I feel that a machine would make a dress more "perfect", precise, and clean cut looking--the exact opposite of what I was trying to go for. Plus, using just the needle and thread made the process so much faster! Which is odd! It only took me about 5 hours to make! My favorite part of the dress is definately the shoulder piece-although they were most tedious to make. It adds a sense of power and strength to the feminine dress sillohuette which I think makes a great combination.

I've been lagging big time on making clothes, but I'm going to start sewing a lot more again! NO15 mag is currently working on their fall issue, so I'm also very excited about that! I hope you all enjoyed the dress and thanks for reading :)

So I'm completely behind schedule with sewing new stuff! I only made a jacket for myself this break, but nothing else! =/. (I'll post up some pictures of jacket later!) This spring break, although unproductive, was very relaxing and fun which was very well-needed! Anyway, this weekend, I went shopping for some fabrics. I was too lazy to drive to LA again, so I just went to a flea market.

Here's what I got:

I was going to buy this really cool lace fabric!!!...but some old lady grabbed the whole roll while I was still looking at it. She didn't speak english, so I didn't even bother to try to tell her I was already going to get it(and she was old). I had a victorian styled unsaturated/muted neutral off white with a feint VERY feint rose dress in mind with amazing soft angles and ripped up layers of lace with a hint of a dull colored marie antoinette, BUT again...old lady. =/ hahah. So this is what I have to work with. I've got a couple ideas in my head about what I'll be making! Hopefully it'll have a good turn-out! Wish me luck!

Last night I went to the BoxEight Fashion: Refocus event. 4 designers' Fall/Winter 2010 line was being showcased. I was only really impressed with Skin Graft, and Isabel Lu. The other two were nice but didn't stand out as much for me personally. My favorite line of the night was definately Skin Graft hands down. The designer, Jonny Cota, has amazing talent.

I'm in the process of sketching out some designs that I can make next week. As you can tell, I'm an aesthetics type of guy. I usually focus on nothing more than just making sure the little details are perfect and that the whole overall product is something nice to look at. My method of designing is just getting fabric, throwing it onto the mannequin, and sewing it as I go. It's liberating I must say to have that freedom in sewing without having to think and over analyze so much. However, I think that was a big flaw in my part. I liked the stuff I was making. Aesthetically, I found it pretty pleasing; However, I realized it was lacking a lot of substance behind it. I really think the same flaw lies in many other designers today. I am honestly really sick of designers making over the top dresses on the runway just for the sake of being "over-the-top." I was so unimpressed with a lot of shows from NY fashion week btw. I love this advante garde stage we're in right now (big fan of GAGA), but it's going a little overboard I think. I don't feel anything when I see it. I think it's pretty and then I forget about it. Again, where's the substance behind it? What are the designers trying to say?

Look back at the 1920's and the flappers stage. Women cut their hair short, didn't wear bras as much, and wore less form fitting clothes. The looseness of the clothes symbolized freedom and not having to be constrained to this dainty and girly role society placed on them. Also, look at the hippies with their super flowy and loose clothes(even nakedness). It was a sign of spirituality, liberation and freedom.

Quick side note----------------------------------

Have you seen that atomic bomb printed tank?! It's terrible. I was so disgusted when I saw that. Are they trying to say atomic bombs are something to really showcase and something to admire? It's ridiculous

It's called a "volcano dress" but obviously it's not a volcano. I've heard so many people rant on about how they want it. It's cool to look at, but I just don't understand why they would wear junk that represents such brutality.

I am in awe of the Rodarte sisters and obviously Alexander McQueen. The Rodarte collection makes me think of warriors kind of. It's so unconventional and it's so powerful. It gives off a strong feeling of strength and it's not too girly which is very refreshing to see (No offense to Vera Wang-get it, girl). It has this tone of empowerment and that's why I think I'm so drawn to it. It actually evokes some feeling. I don't even know where to start with Alexander McQueen's work. It's like he's telling a story with every collection. It's remarkable.

I think my main focus right now in terms of designing is to really move past only aestetically pleasing the audience and to actually evoke something. I often forget to go back at my designs and ask myself questions like: Why did I make the shoulders look like this? What am I trying to convey with it? Why are the arms so constraining? What does it mean? What does that symbolize? What am I trying to tell the audience with my pieces? I want to make something that will be remembered by people not because it's pretty or because it's nice to look at. I want it to actually be meaningful and I want it to really represent something great. There's a whole other sociological topic I can get into with this fashion stuff but I wont bore you all with it.

I'm in a stage of fashion "disillionment" right now if you can't tell. There's so much more to look at in fashion than just the clothes it self and what's trendy this season. So many brush off or don't even notice the culture, business, lifestyles, and polical/economic influences behind it all. I cringe at the sight of fashion magazines that tell people what not to wear because of their body types or what the do's and don'ts of each season are. Who cares! What ever happened to promoting fearless personal style. It's pretty ironic and sad to say, but I've never hated the fashion industry and what it's becoming(better said, what it's not becoming) so much as I do right now.

To wrap this up, I'll make a promise to finish a couple new designs in the next 2 weeks (it's still the begning of finals week :/). If I promise it publically, it'll techinically give me an unofficial deadline. I work a lot better under pressure (and with spam). Hopefully, I will accomplish what I've been talking about.

Ended another lame and hectic week with a relaxing friday with some crazy ass people. I cannot wait until finals *barf* are over and done with so I can start sewing some new stuff! I've been trying to think up of some new ideas for some new pieces, but I'm still looking for that right type of inspiration. With all the fashion week hype last week, all I've been looking at were runway shows. It's pretty dangerous looking at these shows while trying to think up of new designs. Unnconciously and fresh in my head are the runway looks. I saw a pretty cool plant the other day. It kinda sparked some inspiration, I guess. Not really. I Forgot where I saw it, but I'll find it again eventually or hopefully stumble upon something else better while searching for it.

In light of seeing my bank statement & about 40 overdraft letters, I think this is a wonderful idea...*barf*

With that being said, you can expect to see me making a lot more KVN clothing...for myself! To kick off this giving up clothes/lent thing, I decided to fix up an old sweater that's been laying on the bottom of closet for the past 6 months rather than buying a new one (taking baby steps :])! I bought a bunch of old random pins and broaches from a swapmeet that I went to with Lucy, and I stuck them all onto the shoulder of the sweater. I also bought a bunch of bracelets too, but that's irrelevant (& so is the picture of the drawing and candelabras)!

This is my new favorite lazy day-sweater. Take care!

Sorry. I know it's been awhile, but like I promised....here's a new dress! I had a pretty hectic weekend but I finally had time to start sewing for a couple hours today! This dress is an hommage to who I believe was the best designer to this day. So yeah, here it is! I hope you all enjoy it! (That's her bra strap. Not a strap for the dress haha. Just sayin.)

McQueen was my inspiration for this dress and this dress definately comes nothing close in comparison to any of his amazing work. RIP.

So I just finished my midterms! and It feels sooooo goooooood to be free from it for atleast another two weeks. I'm currently starting up a fashion magazine at school and so far it's going great. I'm so soo sooo happy about the amazing people on staff and all the great work thats been put into starting up this magazine. I'll update you all more on that when the first issue comes out!

Also I've been kind of busy planning this Haiti relief charity event. It'll be definately something to look out for. Lastly, I'm sad to say that I had to put some of my designs on hold for the past two weeks because of, again, midterms *barf*. haha BUT I promise I will have a new one done soon! Thank god for this three day weekend.

Oh, I sewed together the high water white pants the other day. There's no inspiration behind them...I just needed white pants! hahah!

I love buying old junk and turning it into not-junk! It's a lot of work sometimes to dig through piles of old stuff, but it's definitely worth it! Going to vintage stores and thrift stores I think really challenges the way you style yourself and just how you think creatively. The flower hat B is wearing is actually a centerpiece for a dining table. She put it on her head for fun and we actually really liked it. That being said,I think everyone should consider going vintage shopping more often!

Hey! Sooooo here's my latest piece! I was very inspired by the 1920's while making this. I really wanted to mix a 1920's vibe and elegance into a more modern sillouhette. I LOVE the white pearls on the creme/white jacket. I think the colors together gives a classy feel to the jacket, ALSO, I love LOVE the poofy shoulders. MMMMM ...the shoulders were quite a challenge for me to make, but I think i managed to put together fairly.

My Jacket is modeled by my amazing cousin Lavene Rose. I absolutely love her style. She dresses like this everyday! When I made this jacket and I was thinking of who would be the perfect person to model it for me and my thoughts went straight to Miss B. I love the way the jacket fits on her and I love the pieces we put together with the jacket. The wide legged pants and white hat was just too perfect for the outfit! When we saw it together we like died because we loved it so much. and then came back to life to take photos! Also, this is her HOUSE! Amazing right?

Hey, everyone! So this one of my newest pieces: lace batwing hoodie. It's modeled by one of the sweetest girls ever, Raych from that's chic! My inspiration for this piece was the vitamin D-filled sun itself! Hopefully the sun/warmth image translated into the jacket.

When I saw the lace fabric at the store, I knew I wanted to turn it into a jacket. I'm really into the see-through fabrics right now as well as a baggy/loose top shape. I think the combination of the beige lace and looseness is perfect for spring!

Quick story: I wore this jacket to class one day but I didn't wear a shirt underneath and I got a bunch of looks (most likely dirty and concerned looks) hahah! Hey everyone!

Meet my friend Meghan Chatrath! Her style is very clean cut. I wouldn't call it super preppy, but it is preppy. We tried really hard to put together a similar look for me, but it was really hard! It's not really my style and I didn't have much clothes that could fit that type of style. I tried, but failed so we just meshed her style with mine. It had kind of a clean cut look with the button up and trousers, but not too too formal with my jacket. I can't live with out my leather!

Random but lately this week my sleeping schedule has been way off! I did sleep for 2 nights in a row. I've become an insomniac, but I kind of like it. Sleep is for the weak!

Hey, everyone! Just wanted to introduce my next door neighbor Lillian Wong to you guys! It's her first time modeling, so let us know what you think! I bought this poncho at a vintage shop the other day and I LOVE IT! It's very baggy and comfortable (kinda itchy too, but whatevs). With this post, I was hoping to show that you don't need to go and buy the most expensive name brand shirt to look good. It's all about making any shirt (new, old, used whatever) look good on you. I admire those who are fearless with their own personal style because anyone can look up trends from runway shows and completely copy them. The real fashionistas are those who start their own trends. Hey everyone! Here's my newest design like I promised! Hope you all enjoy!Really glad the process is done with. It was so tedious and I messed up so many times. There was a point where I ran out of fabric and had to redesign the skirt. But all in all, I'm happy with how it turned out! **ITS KIND OF WRINKLED...

My inspiration for this was from a song. It wasn't the lyrics I was trying to translate into the dress but rather the vibe and feeling I got from listening to it. I looped the song over and over as I was sewing and putting pieces together and now it's a dress!I wanted it to be edgy, but still very subtle and calm. I wanted the spirals on the bodice to contrast the sharp edges of the skirt.

ANYWAY,

Hey, everyone!

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with this blog. I've been working on a new dress and I'm still in the process of getting the skirt part just right.

SO, someone the other day asked me a super generic question, "what is fashion to you? (as a designer persepective)"

In my head I was thinking, "wow, what a stupid, broad, generic, and typical question." I had no other choice but to retun a stupid, broad, generic, and typical answer: "it's an art of expression! blah balh blah" Lame answer, I know. But literally fifteen minutes ago while I was in the middle of hemming the skirt, I realized how different the dress looked from my original sketch. I took pictures of the progress of the dress and seriously it went through different phases. I'll post these pictures up again, but straight-to-the-point, if I could answer that question again, I'd say fashion is a phase change and a process of evolution (well for me it is). You all are probably thinking, "what the eff is this guy talking about?!" but yeah I had a , i guess you can say, designer epiphany while making this dress. After making so many different types and styles of dresses, I finally found the style I want to go with. I can't really describe it right now but it's a huge melange of styles that were inspired by different architecture, time eras, people, etc. Also, I finally figured out why I've had designer's block lately. I've been trying to sit down, and figure out a concrete design so I can just simply go and make it. But after making this dress I realized how different it looks from my original sketch. Which is a good thing! I'm more of a hands on person. Sounds really stupid but I guess you can say I like to find the perfect fabric that "speaks to me." hahah yeah. I guess you can say I work backwards. My stuff is never finalized until it's on someone being photographed. My ideas are always evolving in my head as I make it. For this dress, I seriously went through 4 different phases, and now I finally have it set! I'm really really really really proud of this piece and I cannot wait to take photos of it and show everyone! Next post, you'll get a photo of the dress, my inspirations, and it's different dress phases. You'll see how it slowly transformed into the look i have for it now! Well, back to work!

PS. Sorry, no outfit pictures in this post. I've been wearing sweats all week (finals week) so I don't really have any pictures of shnazzy outfits to post. Nor do i really care to post pictures of outfits :/. I'm going to shift this blog's focus more to my designs starting from my sketches, my inspirations, the process, the "phase changes," and the final product! But don't worry, I'll occasionally post some outfit pictures/ trend reports stuff whatevvs. hahah Have a good week!

So here's my inspiration for my next two designs. My main influence from this photo was just the warm colors and the "lazy" feeling the heat gives you. When it gets super hot no one wants to wear body hugging clothing. That's where i got the idea for my romper and batwing hoodie. Both are very loose and baggy so it's very comfortable and still stylish :).

So those are my two newest designs! I'm actually excited about these two pieces because it's different from my other work. It's for one not a dress. I started out having just the trim and beads from the romper. After I saw the desert picture I wanted to really bring that "heated" and "warm" feeling from a hot day into an outfit.

I am currently in the process of sketching out a new dress. It'll be hot! I promise!

Hey!

Tonight, Shelly and I went to the Living Room in downtown La Jolla to do some studying. Kinda got some French hw done kinda of not. She got no Econ hw done. But anyway...picture time! so enjoy! (oh and the photos are kind of bad quality...but you all have eyes... so yeah just squint and imagine it as amazing quality or something! )

So.. my outfit was actually a bunch of cheap shit I got at a vintage store.

The point I was trying to prove in this blog wasssss that you don't necesarily need to spend a shit ton of money to make an outfit look good! When I got the clothes, I altered it on my dinky little sewing machine so it fit me the way I wanted it to!

GET IT?! SECOND HAND SMOKE..SECOND HAND CLOTHING... GET IT?!? GET IT?!? ITS A PUN! :) But seriously, I encourage everyone to go check out vintage shops. Sustainability by recycled clothing everyone! Help the environment out!

Plastics Make it Possible!

What up, hoes! :')
So, I went to the GenArts Fashion Show in LA Last Thursday Oct, 29 with my fellow bloggers Chery, Crystal, and Jenn. Together we formed the "fuckapellas." Long story. Anyway, Sorry for the delay of a post for this event, I was too busy being a lazy piece of shit.

So overall, it was a nice venue, nice night, and decent clothes. Nothing too exciting. To be honest, the clothes on stage I felt have been done before. Nothing really caught my eye, except one collection (you'll see what I'm talking about.) Also, I met a couple other amazing bloggers! I'll link you guys to their sites in a bit, but in the meantime, read on!

My first impression when I walked into the room was, " THERE'S SO MANY TALL, SKINNY, AND BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE...WEARING ALL BLACK! " hahah You know it's a fashion show when there's only an open bar with alchohol and no food. Sigh. I repeat, there was no food :(. It's okay, I fed my fat ass some Jack in the Box later that night.

I enjoyed this collection as well. Reminds me of some pieces from Marc Jacobs' spring 2009 collection in regards to the high water pants and the cut of the jackets. My favorite item was the trouser shorts! Wish I had a pair!

Minor Details

What up, hoes! :')

This one's about making your outfit better with minor details. Just the smallest and simplest details will make the biggest difference.

1. If your outfit is just different layers of plain colored clothing, add a small item with some pattern in! I threw in a hankercheif around my neck !
2. Roll up your sleeves and scrunch them up! Add some texture into your outfit! I rolled up my pants and blazer sleeves.
3. Add some simple accessories. If you're not too wild about bold accessories, add some neutral colored ones that will go with ultimately everything. I wear my beaded bracelets everyday. I added a pocketwatch and a bag/ backpack/ murse/ manbag whatever!

My inspiration was a 20's-30's kind of feel. I added my own shit to really make it more personalized. Remember, don't let the inspiration own you. You take it to make your look a little better!
